Endoluminal Laser Vein Closure
ELT, EVLT, and ELVeS laser treatments involve the use of light
energy to heat the vein wall and cause it to collapse and seal
close. The light energy is transmitted in a series of brief pulses
through a special laser hand piece that targets the vein. The light
is absorbed into the blood vessels and causes the blood to
coagulate. The surrounding tissue is left unaffected by the laser
and the coagulated blood will soon be absorbed by the body.
Patients will be asked to wear compression stockings to keep
pressure on the veins after the treatment. Patients may return to
regular activities right after treatment. Hot baths and strenuous
exercise should be avoided for a few weeks. Bruising will disappear
after a week or two, and the final results of the laser treatment
may not be seen for several months. Patients may need several laser
treatments, but afterwards, they will enjoy the look and feel of
legs without unpleasant veins.
